CUBIST
RABBI
"CUBIST RABBI" is Absolutely Fantastic! This is an
Authentic Signed and Dated, Very Early Ari Roussimoff Oil on
Canvas Painting, measuring a large-sized 24 x 36 inches. Began
in 1970, at the begining of the artist's cubist period,
"CUBIST RABBI" was completed a few years later during 1974.
This is a hypnotic composition, which depicts a Holy Rabbi
during the morning prayers (Shachris), draped in the
traditional Prayer Shawl (Tallis) and Phylacteries (Tefillin).
Roussimoff has successfully created a work which is both
highly reverential of its esteemed subject, and at the same
time serves as a boldly outstanding modernist vision. The
forms are abstracted in such an individualistic way, as to
render the figure as an actual animated life-force. There is
so much life here. A very, very unusual interpretation of a
religious Jewish theme. So un-like the sentamentalized
pictures often being passed-off as depictions of Jewish life.
This is a genuinely powerful work of modern Judaica Art! This
hypnotic work represents one of the artist's earliest forays
into Cubism. During the 1970's the artist created an
incredible series of cubist-influenced paintings, this work
being one of the very best early ones. This is a Work that
will surely add much Life to any Room and Collection. A Real
Jewel!
